We have discovered the secret to keeping the house (somewhat) clean while feeding a busy family during the summer heat. Outdoor dining.
We have a small folding table that we have moved outside for the summer. It has made meals so easy. It folds up and tucks away into a corner while not in use. When it’s time to eat, it takes about 10 seconds to stand it up. We eat off plastic picnic plates that we wash and re-use. It doesn’t take any longer to set the table or serve the meal out in the front yard. Cleanup is quick and easy, and we don’t have to worry about spills or other messes. It also provides a handy surface for other fun summer activities.
Even if you just go sit outside for dinner at the end of the day when it starts to cool off, it’s a fun and casual way to bring everyone together, and it eases your workload at the end of a busy day. When dinner is done and everyone goes inside, each person (even young kids!) can grab a couple of things to bring in. Give the table a quick wipe down and fold it up for later.
Try serving our cold Mexican Risotto for a quick and nutritious summer meal!
